“You know my methods, Watson. There was not one of them which I did not apply to the inquiry.” So remarked Sherlock Holmes and this three-session cohort-based ‘inquiry’ of Ken Ludwig’s comedy will take an in-depth look at the theatrical ‘methods’ of literary-to-theatrical adaptation, conventions of comedy, and highlights of what to look for within the production. Sequenced to provide preshow context (March 29th), attendance of a performance with ticket price included (April 5th), and sharing postshow impressions – including a conversation with a member of the production’s creative team (April 12th), each session will activate dramaturgy – theatre’s unique tool of research and inquiry. With aspects of creative dramatic play, activation of text, and engaged conversation, this unique offering is far more than lecture but with as many insights and discoveries. No outside reading or familiarity with Holmes’ adventures – Baskervilles or otherwise – is necessary.
